There has always been a lot of circulating misconceptions about Generic Drugs. A lot of people say that Generics as what they are commonly called do not have the same dosage strength compared to their patented counterparts. Though the word Generic may sound dubious in nature, they certainly are products which you could definitely trust.
Generics are drugs that are produces without patent protection. Because of this, they are cheaper compared to their patented counterparts. According to the Food and Drug Administration of the United States, Generic Drugs are considered to be equivalent to a lot of important properties like the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of those branded medicines. Meaning they are as effective in the dosage, strength, use and efficacy when used in comparison to the patented medicines.
Just like the branded medicines, Generic drugs are still under the checked and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Because of this, before they are actually sold on the market they have been rigorously tested first to ensure that they are safe to use. So there is really no harm with using Generic Drugs.
Generics have been a very big help specially on third world nations where they simply couldn’t afford to purchase branded drugs. The Introduction may not be that significant in the first world but the mere fact that we do have an alternative will give us more choices on what we could use.
